June is Elder Abuse Awareness Month – Don’t Turn Away

June is Elder and Dependent Adult Abuse Awareness Month and our message is ‘Don’t Turn Away.’  If you see an elder or dependent adult in crisis or need of support, reach out, call our Adult and Aging program or speak up if you seem something of concern.

This June, there are a variety of community outreach events including purple lawn flags representing each report of abuse for that community in 2021 at each senior center across Sonoma County, including some city halls and police departments.  There will also be presentations on ‘Frauds, Scams and Other Types of Abuse’ at Senior Centers – check our calendar for more information or call our office.  Presentations are scheduled:

6/13 Monday at 1pm Petaluma Senior Center

6/16 Thursday at 12:30pm Rohnert Park Senior Center

6/21 Tuesday at 1pm at the Sebastopol Area Senior Center

6/22 Wednesday 11am at Finley Communty Center

On Tuesday June 14th there will also be a Training on Decision-Making Capacity:  How partners may better work together to support an individual before their capacity is at a crisis-level.

Here is information about the training: Decision-Making Capacity Training for Elder Justice- Changing the Conversation edit

Please see the flyer and Zoom registration below for our first event in a quarterly training series addressing decision-making capacity, and how we may work together to improve the system for those who may need more support.  Feel free to share with colleagues that may face the challenges that declining decision-making capacity presents in our work.

When: Jun 14, 2022 11:30 AM Pacific Time (US and Canada)
