Senior Advocacy Services has a long history of working with a large cadre of generous volunteers helping to advocate for and inform seniors across six counties (Sonoma, Marin, Napa, Solano, Mendocino, and Lake). Our volunteers provide tangible results and intangible qualities that not only brighten the days of our aging population but also make a direct impact on their safety and quality of life.
Ways we depend upon our Volunteers
EVENTS. Our volunteer teams are essential to the success of our fundraising efforts. We have volunteers who offer single days of service for specific events (Mother’s Day Flowers, Secret Santa) and other who manage the event from start to finish.
OVERSIGHT OF LONG TERM CARE FACILITIES. Our Ombudsman volunteers are feet on the ground in long-term care facilities making certain that staff respect the residents, honor their Rights, and make the facility a HOME for the residents. They also act as investigators when responding to allegations of financial and verbal abuse and neglect.
NAVIGATE THE MAZE OF MEDICARE. Medicare plans and options can be very confusing. Our volunteer counselors meet one-on-one with seniors as well as deliver presentation to the community to provide information on understanding Medicare. Volunteer counselors use their expertise to support clients in an individualized basis, assist in coverage appeals, and share resources.
COLLABORATION AND TEAMWORK. The staff at Senior Advocacy Services is small (only 13!). We take great pride in our volunteers and we cannot effectively deliver the program resources without them. We are a team, together solving the challenges of aging. Our volunteers give their passion, knowledge and valuable time. We LOVE our Volunteers and so do the seniors they touch on a daily basis.
