The cost of residential care in Sonoma County ranges in cost from $1800 per month to as high of $6000 per month. It is possible for the monthly cost of care to become even higher with additional charges for any extra services that may be needed (See “Admission Agreements” for more information).
HOW TO PAY AND WITH WHAT FUNDS:
Paying for residential care is most frequently with private funds or with assistance from Supplemental Security Income (SSI). A few long-term care insurance policies will also include coverage for residential care. At the present time in Sonoma County there are few homes that accept SSI as the sole means of payment for residential care. MediCal does not pay for residential/assisted living care.
In order to pay for this level of care some individuals will need to use of combination of payment sources including retirement funds, pensions or in some cases cashing out a home or property will be necessary. Review all of the options with a trusted advisor and involved family members to ensure that whichever method is employed to help pay for residential care has been thoroughly evaluated.
